Xalyo network cards
Network cards designed by Xalyo Systems (Gland, Switzerland) carry the same WinPath3 network processor across a decade. That continuity makes each upgrade easy, and it is also the common-mode risk that the fourth F has to manage.
XS-3200Made September 2012 (date code 2012W36). Not in Xalyo's public catalog, consistent with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part built for one customer. It dates from the mobile-backhaul era of 3G and LTE base stations; the original customer is to be confirmed by Xalyo.
XS-3000XMC card: 4 x OC-3/STM-1, 1 x OC-12/STM-4, 1 x Gigabit Ethernet; ATM and packet over SONET. Xalyo's datasheet lists 3G, LTE and WiMAX control, backhaul, baseband and PHY.
XS-3500XMC card: 13 x Gigabit Ethernet, Trusted Platform Module, 1 GB NAND, Linux board support. The same form factor and processor family: an upgrade from SONET to Ethernet replaces a mezzanine card, not the host.
PolarFire successorWinPath3 parts are out of production. A Microchip PolarFire field-programmable gate array card (6U VPX, 6U VME, XMC) is under feasibility review with Xalyo. Shown: the PolarFire SoC Discovery Kit used as a development reference.
What the OEM supply chain teaches
The XS-3000, XS-3200 and XS-3500, and other vendors' edge routers of the same era, all chose WinPath3. One processor and one operating software base (Civica WanStaX) across the family made each step low-risk.
Every card depends on one out-of-production part from one supplier. That is a common-mode obsolescence risk, graded by how critical each function is.
A replacement passes only if it matches form, fit and function and can be restored to its chain-of-trust baseline after a cyber incident. Secondary-market spares need provenance records before use.
